Crates, Blankets, Beds

I highly recommend these crates. They serve as an amazing tool for potty training and contentment training. They have a movable wall so if you start your puppy with the wall moved all the way to the front the puppy has no opportunity to potty in one end of the crate and sleep in the other end. It helps reinforce the idea of bladder control for the puppy. As the puppy grows the crate grows too! And for your puppies comfort. This also fits into the crate we recommend:

puppy lovey blanket

Since a dogs sense of smell is one of their most powerful senses, we recommend getting your puppy a transition blanket. The blanket is rubbed on the puppy's mama and will carry the sent of mom home with you to help your puppy transition away from mom.  It makes for a nice thing for them to snuggle with while in their crate! Please order these before week 6 as the mama dog often goes back to their guardian home around this time.  You can have the blanket shipped to us and we will also have the puppy spend time with it before going home.

Here are my favorites but feel free to find others!

food, treats, water:

The health of our puppies is top priority. I am sure you have read about the dog food recalls in the last decade. This company has never had a recall on any of its products. We have done a lot of research and feel great about recommending this high quality dog food! We hope you will continue feeding this premium All Life Stages Dog Food. At first glance it might seem expensive, but is a not like your typical food with fillers and artificial preservatives, therefore you end up feeding less because it is more concentrated.

One of our favorite things about working with Life’s Abundance is their “auto-ship” program.  You can sign up to have automatic delivery of your dog food along with auto-payment so you don’t ever have to worry about running out or making late night deliveries to the store! It has been super convenient!

This bucket also fits the bag of dog food perfectly and keeps the food from going stale.  Plus, it looks a lot better in our pantry than the bag. I am not into a lot of treats, but I do like to use them with more advance training requests, especially if your pup is food focused.  They can be really helpful in getting a strong foundation for their training.  We love the prodcuts from Life's Abundance because they are also packed with healthy stuff verses most dog treats which are filled with chemicals and high in fat.  Once they are potty trained, we also like the water dispensers so our dogs have access to water all day, even while we are gone or at work.

Grooming:

Your Doodle will need to be professionally groomed every 2-4 months. The following products are handy to use in the in-between time to keep your pup clean and fluffy! Because of extra moisture in the Great NW some Doodles with their floppy- hairy ears tend to get ears that begin to smell and produce a black substance. Zymox is my go to for this. In between grooming appointments, we like to use the flea and tick shampoo to help prevent our dogs from getting those itchy fleas!

Revitalizing Shampoo:  Enhanced with the nourishing essences of coconut and palm kernel oil, Revitalizing Shampoo naturally cleanses and beautifies coats. Even a small dollop of this conditioning formula works into a luxurious, foamy lather, to deeply cleanse and leave coats silky, fragrant and tangle-free. The luscious scents of mango and kiwi mingle with energizing citrus notes to bring out natural shine. Natural antioxidants from organic rosemary and sage help prevent damage from weathering and environmental factors. Natural emollients help soften hair and give the coat more body.

Company coming over and you notice your puppy smells but now you don't have time for a puppy bath? This looks weird but it really works! We love having the Life's Abundance Steel Odor Remover on hand!

Special steel alloy neutralizes odors

  • Contoured knobs for relaxing pet massage
  • Eco-friendly alternative to harsh soaps
  • Removes stubborn smells like onion & garlic

Teething and toys:

Puppies chew for 1 to 2 years. When you have chew toys (and my favorite- elk antlers) around you can encourage your Doodle to chew on the right objects! I also recommend rolling up any nice rugs you might have until they have outgrown some of their teething.  We have really cheap ones we don't care about that we set out when we have puppies around.  We teach them not to chew on those and once we feel like they've got it, we put our nice ones back down.  While they are learning, here are some helpful tools:

Books:

I have included my favorite all time dog book: The Monks of New Skete.  I love the philosophy that the Monks of New Skete present and we use many of their ideas with our dogs. Also, How to Housebreak Your Dog is another book I have heard good reviews on:

gates and pens:

You might need a gate, or an indoor or outdoor pet containment fence depending on your set up. While your puppy is growing, we recommend not letting them go down the stairs as it can be bad for their growing hips and cause problems later on.  We have a gate over our stairs until they are older.

Insurance:

Pet Insurance is becoming more and more popular! As the world of insurance is getting on board with families wanting to have their dogs protected and covered for medical expenses.  I love the idea and after looking into many different companies we have decided to go with Pet's Best.  After families poor so much into their dogs--love, training, supplies, time, and money it makes sense to have them covered!

Training:

Puppy Kindergarten

Puppy Kindergarten!  Evergreen Doodle puppies sometimes have the option of enrolling in a week of PUPPY K! (If you are interested in Puppy K when you make your puppy reservation you can ask me if we are doing a Puppy K for that particular litter.) Pups typically go home at 8 weeks, but with Puppy K, your pup can stay one for one extra week.

PUPPY K introduces your new family member to the basics. Your puppy will be put on a schedule. Just like a new baby! Puppies due well with set naps, family times, and feedings. PUPPY K will introduce crate training, elementary potty training, touch response training, sit and walking on a leash. PUPPY K will begin to teach your puppy manners. While in the litter jumping up and nipping was all fun and games, those habits must be adjusted a bit as they transition from litter to home.

Puppies up until 8 weeks live in the "pack". (They are handled each day by our family and introduced to many sights and sounds, but the predominate training during that time is done by the mama dog and the litter companions.) All the wrestling with litter-mates and jousting for position is part of the proper development of your Doodle pup! When they move from the litter to a family there is an adjustment period. A week of PUPPY K sometimes can make this transition just a bit smoother!

A week of PUPPY K is provided in our home.  PUPPY K fills up quickly, we do not do Puppy K for every litter, but when we do offer it - it fills up quickly .... so let me know if you are interested. The tuition cost is $463.50.  Mid-week we will send you pictures and an update on your puppies progress. At the end of the week, we will explain to you all of the training that we have established with your pup so you can take it from there!

Go to our Puppy Kindergarten page for more information and to sign up for the dates available!
